The Mobile Info Team on TV Record

Mobile Info Team member Mariana Vareta (Portugal) was interviewed by TV Record last week, about the current refugee situation in Greece, what we do and how we are received.

Information is sorely lacking in camps and there is little support along the process of asylum. We are trying to help as many people as possible feel empowered to make educated decisions for their future. We give objective information about legal options and the current situation, as listen to refugees' feedback on what is happening inside the camps.

We are mainly asked “How long will it take?” and, although we are the bearers of bad news, it is important that people are aware that it will be a long wait for refugees in Greece, due to the complexity of asylum procedures and high number of applications. We try and clarify as many doubts as we can regarding pre-registration, family reunification, EU relocation and asylum in Greece, as there are still many uncertainties and a great lack of information.

We are trusted by the refugees we meet and share information with, as we have time to speak and listen to them, form relationships and support people through their decisions and processes. We go once weekly to 7 different camps (working to reach 10) and are establishing a known presence.

We will continue to provide information, listen to stories and share time with refugees stuck in Greece. Keep checking this page for more news. More photos.
