The pre-registration procedure and the International Protection Applicant’s Card

“Before the pre-registration we were afraid we were forgotten and we would stay here for one or two years, because there were no programs to apply. Now we are feeling some relief, but we are still concerned for how long are we going to stay.” Mohamad, 16 years old Syrian living at Lete/Derveni camp, in Thessaloniki.

Refugees staying at Lete/Derveni were pre-registered last Thursday. The Mobile Info Team was there, answering last minute questions about asylum options and clarifying the pre-registration procedure, as well as the meaning of the International Protection Applicant’s Card.

The International Protection Applicant’s Card that you receive after you have pre-registered as a refugee gives you the right to legally live in Greece, move freely inside the country, access medical care and send children to the public school.

You do NOT get the right to work in Greece. You will only get the right to work after you have completed your registration, during the next appointment with the Asylum Service.
